The Philosophy and Practice of Coaching: Insights and issues for a new era
Edited by David B. Drake, Diane Brennan and Kim Gørtz
Published by Wiley, May 08
The coaching profession is maturing rapidly and the global conversation about the future of coaching and its contribution to the world is advancing as a result. Now a new book - The Philosophy and Practice of Coaching - draws on the work of 17 leading coaches from seven countries to focus more on the practices of coaching rather than the theories behind it.
The book, edited by David B. Drake, Diane Brennan and Kim Gørtz, will help readers build stronger connections between a sound theoretical and philosophical foundation, a commitment to reflective practice, and stellar results for clients. The extraordinary collection of writers share their expertise and insights, taking the reader deeper in observation, learning and understanding about coaching including what it takes to do coaching and how to be a coach.
Dr. Elaine Cox, Head of Group for Coaching and Mentoring, Oxford Brookes University says, “The Philosophy and Practice of Coaching is a much needed addition to the serious coaching literature. Its chapters identify a stimulating range of very pertinent issues and challenges for coaching, introducing as they go new concepts and expounding emerging applications. The book more than meets its claim to involve us in a ‘deeper conversation.’ ”
Carol Kauffman, PhD, ABPP, PCC, Assistant Clinical Professor, Harvard Medical School and Director, Coaching & Positive Psychology Initiative agrees; “This is exactly the kind of book the field needs – it is very insightful, theoretically grounded and immensely practical.”
