Kitesurfing: The Complete Guide by Kristin Boese

KitesurfingPublished by Wiley Nautical, May 2008

Leap for your life and discover the thrills of kitesurfing in this unique book which provides essential reading for fans of this extreme sport at any stage. Written by a three times kitesurfing champion, Kitesurfing: The Complete Guide is a training manual covering the basics as well as the mental and physical preparation needed for development.

The idea behind kitesurfing is very simple. A kitesurfer stands on a board with foot straps or bindings and uses the power of a large controllable kite to propel him and the board across the water. This simplicity also makes kitesurfing challenging. Your body is the only connection between the kite and the board and you have to control them both at the same time: piloting the kite in the sky and steering the board on the water.

Like all watersports, safety and preparation come first, with the opening chapters covering weather, location, preparation of equipment, physical & mental warm-ups and signals in the water. Once the rider has mastered surfing safely at high speed, it’s time to start having some fun, with more than 50 tricks covered in full step-by-step detail from the basic chop hop to how to ride huge waves and advanced moves like the back to blind surface pass and the unhooked downloop s-bend! Kitesurfing: The Complete Guide is the essential training manual for any eager novice looking for the full excitement that this rapidly growing sport has to offer.
