About the author:
Alyssa Abbey's academic background is as a physiologist. Having completed a BA in Biology at the University of Virginia and MSc in Physical Education and Sports Science at Loughborough University, she began her career in health screening. Recognising the importance of stress levels in health and performance, she pursued the study of Stress Management and began advising organisations on stress management policy, stress risk assessment and return-to-work procedure following stress related illness.
She has run hundreds of stress workshops, and this has strengthened her conviction that stress management is really about energy management. Approaching health from the angle of increasing vitality and resilience, instead of ‘fixing’ stress and resulting ill-health, is much more empowering for individuals. As a result of this conviction, Alyssa has become a Vitality Consultant – the niche she was absolutely made for.
During her three years as Manager of Corporate Wellbeing Services for BUPA Wellness, she had the opportunity to complete media training, record three radio advertisements, and appear on Meridian TV and Cable TV as a Stress expert. She has been quoted in the Sunday Times, the Financial Times, Women’s Health magazine, Independent Nurse, and numerous BUPA publications.
