Frommer’s and Borders® Team Up to Revolutionise the Art of Travel Planning

Borders_travel_kiosk 27th February 2008:  Frommer’s®, the publisher of the best selling travel guidebooks, Frommers.com, and Whatsonwhen®, a leading Web services and events information provider, have created for Borders several unique travel information and planning tools, including a “trip recommender,” an extensive calendar of festivals and parties happening worldwide, and a “popular destination” feature that gives customers access to Frommer’s data on more than 100 U.S. and international destinations. Available on the Travel kiosk in Borders’ new concept store located in Ann Arbor, Mich., these tools allow customers to quickly and easily research hundreds of travel destinations right in the store.

The “Borders Trip Recommender,” enables customers to enter information about the type of trip they’re dreaming about taking and provides customized destination recommendations. Customers can then click on one of the suggested destinations provided by the trip recommender to access relevant books, DVDs and other and resources on that area selected by Borders’ Travel category buyers. To delve deeper into the details about a destination, customers can also access an extensive calendar of activities, including festivals, concerts and sporting events taking place in that locale.  For customers who want to narrow their search to world’s most sought-after destinations, there’s the “Popular U.S. & International Destinations” feature, which provides access to accurate and candid Frommer’s data on more than 100 U.S. and international destinations simply by choosing the location on a world map, or by selecting a region, city or country from a series of pull down menus. Rounding out the myriad of travel planning resources available on the kiosk, there are also seasonal articles penned by Pauline Frommer exclusively for Borders customers. After they’ve completed their research, customers can even book their trip online right at the kiosk.

“The travel kiosk is designed to provide unprecedented in-store access to a variety of travel planning tools and resources as well as expert recommendations on destination-specific books and related travel accessories – so customers can research and plan the best trip possible” says Larry Olson, Vice President and Director of Marketing for Wiley, the parent company of Frommer’s and Whatsonwhen. “We’re thrilled to offer such dynamic and forward-thinking travel planning tools that make the trip planning experience exceptionally smooth and easy.”

Borders will roll-out the travel kiosks in 13 additional concept stores that it plans to open around the US in 2008 as well as in select superstores across the country.
